The Mets defeated the Phillies in an 11-3 drubbing at Citizens Bank Park to open this critical weekend series.
You’d never know it by looking at the final score, but the Mets didn’t record their first hit in this game until the fifth inning. In the top of the first inning, Brandon Nimmo and Pete Alonso worked back-to-back two-out walks to make Aaron Nola work, but nothing came of it and Nola settled in to cruise through the next three frames. José Quintana matched zeroes with Nola aided by strong work by the Mets in the field behind him.
