For the first six weeks of this season, Reed Garrett took the league by storm. Coming into the year with a career ERA north of seven, the 31-year-old journeyman was clinging on to a 40-man roster spot by his fingernails when he got an emergency call-up in the first week of the season after Tylor Megill got hurt. He was set to be serve as a long reliever for a few days while the Mets were undermanned, and was probably set to be DFA’d or optioned back down a few days later.
But Garrett not only pitched effectively in his long relief duties early on, he was dominant.
