David Wright was given Saturday off — although a pinch-hitting role was not out of the question — because of some shoulder stiffness after playing back-to-back extra-inning games.
“I expect him to be in the lineup [Sunday],” said manager Terry Collins, who withheld Wright from the second game of the series with Boston, a 3-1 loss. “We’ll talk to him in the morning, see how he’s doing. Back-to-back extra-inning games, he’s a little stiff.”
Wright returned to the Mets on Monday, playing for the first time since April 14. He originally went on the disabled list with a strained hamstring but later was diagnosed with spinal stenosis, which causes a narrowing of the spinal column.
