A big bright spot of Mets camp finally looks ready to bloom

PORT ST. LUCIE — Brandon Nimmo can hold a joint celebration Tuesday denoting his 25th birthday and best audition yet with the Mets.

Near the top of any list of Mets positives from spring training, which concluded Monday with an intrasquad scrimmage at First Data Field, was the further emergence of Nimmo, who perhaps provides the team a fourth dependable outfield bat once Michael Conforto returns.

Conforto will begin the season on the disabled list, but his absence could be brief — he remains well ahead of the May 1 timetable outlined by the club in his return from left-shoulder surgery.
