The MLB trade deadline on July 31st is rapidly approaching, and the trade rumors around the New York Mets starting to heat up. The Mets are 47-38, but are battling injuries. The Mets are in the middle of the wild card race, and could be buyers if they don't regress as the deadline gets closer. With that in mind, here all the latest Mets trade rumors below.
Harvey Done For Year
Matt Harvey's season is done. The pitcher is undergoing surgery to correct his thoracic outlet syndrome. Harvey will at least miss the rest of this season and there isn't a timetable for his return. As a result, those Matt Harvey to the Red Sox rumors are officially dead. There's simply no way Boston would trade for an injured Harvey. With Harvey on the DL, the Mets could look for some starting pitching help at the deadline.
Yoenis Cespedes Will Opt Out?
Cespedes is in the midst of a great season, as demonstrated by his All-Star selection. It also means he's highly likely to opt out of his contract this offseason, per Jon Heyman.
Yoenis Cespedes has propped up a sputtering Mets offense, and it’s no surprise, he will indeed opt out should he stay at anything close to this pace. The Mets did great to bring him back in a comeback effort, but it’s worth keeping in mind that the Tigers, Nationals and White Sox were runners-up in the derby.
Cespedes signed a three-year, $75 million contract this offseason, but it has that opt-out after the first year. If he keeps playing as well as he is now, he should be able to get more next summer.
