NY Mets News: Matt Harvey blasts critics of his personal life

Matt Harvey has found himself on the wrong end of the NY Mets news cycle lately, recently coming under direct fire from one journalist in particular for perceived transgressions both personal and professional.

In a scathing article for CBS New York, writer Jason Keidel absolutely tore into Harvey:

Harvey is already wearing us out. Between the middle-digit tweet, the talk of no Tommy John when they first found the torn ligament in his golden arm, posing for nude photos for ESPN and the perfunctory, courtside Barbie doll on his arm at every game, he’s making way more noise in the stands than on the diamond….

If he has an ounce of sense in his skull he will snap a lid on his mouth. Mere mortals — and Harvey is all too human — must wait a year to 18 months to return from Tommy John. And his spastic case of machismo isn’t appealing, encouraging or refreshing.

The "talk of no Tommy John" is in reference to Harvey's statements that he hopes to come back to make 5-7 starts this season. Competitor that he is, Harvey has been pushing himself as hard as he can in rehab to get back into the Mets rotation - while trying to enjoy "mere mortal" life in the meantime.

After catching wind of Keidel's comments, Harvey decided that he would return fire (albeit with more class): “I guess having a life outside of baseball is sometimes not OK, or something,” Harvey stated. “I enjoy going to Rangers games. I enjoy going to Knicks games. I’m a big sports fan, so obviously going to games is something that I’m not going to change. I can’t help what people think.”

Score one for the kid.
