Mets Rumors: New York targeting David Murphy, Jon Niese trade swap with Indians?

Depending on just how much of a need the New York Mets feel acquiring outfield help to be, there is a rumors floating around that the Mets could pick up Cleveland Indians outfielder David Murphy for one of the their stash of veteran starting pitchers.

If that starting pitching name happens to be Jon Niese, Cleveland.com's Paul Hoynes believes that the Mets would be acquiring a platoon player and nothing more:

Niese, who pitched at Defiance High School, is 28 and seems to be getting better every season. He can't become a free agent until after the 2016 season. Murphy, 33, is signed through 2015 with a club option for 2016.

I don't think Indians fans saw Murphy at his best last season, but I'm wondering if he's more of a platoon player at this point in his career.

There are plenty of other outfield options out there in a market seemingly full of them, so don't be surprised if the Mets continue to survey their options.
