In this Mets rumors and news update, the New York Mets are currently surveying their options when it comes to potentially trading starting pitcher Bartolo Colon.
According to Joe Giglio of NJ.com (via Bleacher Report), moving Colon now would make a ton of sense for the Mets going forward into the 2015 season and beyond:
Moving Bartolo Colon buys Alderson time to evaluate all the young arms. Blockbuster trade for big bat makes more sense in offseason. #Mets

However, the Mets aren't actively shopping Colon just yet:
The Mets are not yet believed to be engaged in serious talks about Colon, and it is not a foregone conclusion that he will be dealt, but a major league source predicted dialogue would increase in the next week. An August trade remains possible, too, via a team making a waiver claim.
It remain to be seen what Colon will command on the open market, or whether the Mets' recent push to five games under .500 (45-50) will be enough to position them as buyers before the July 31st non-waiver trading deadline.
