Mets Rumors: AJ Burnett trade update, Mets on his list

In today's Mets rumors and news update, the New York Mets are one of nine teams that Philadelphia Phillies starting pitcher AJ Burnett can't block a trade to under the terms of his current contract.

According to ESPN's Jerry Crasnick, the Phillies wouldn't have to consult Burnett in the event they came to an accord with the Mets on a potential trade:

Burnett already spent three years in New York, compiling a 34-35 record and 4.79 ERA during an inconsistent stint with the New York Yankees.

While the Mets can't be discounted in trade rumors surrounding Burnett or any top-tier name on the market (due to the team's wealth of pitching prospects on the farm), the likeliest trade scenario would see Burnett returning to the Pittsburgh Pirates. Burnett is reportedly sold on heading back to the Bucs after helping lead them to the playoffs in 2013 and several Pirates players are also lobbying for the team to bring him back.

Burnett is 6-9 this season with a 4.08 ERA. Going into Tuesday's action, the 37-year-old righty haD issued an NL-worst 58 walks.
