In today's Mets news update, left-hander Dana Eveland and his agent struggled to find him work back in the Majors after he spent a year abroad pitching in Korea.
While Eveland enjoyed pitching in Korea, especially with the steady paycheck and interesting travel that it provided, Eveland was fixated on finding another job with an MLB team.
"We begged everybody," Eveland said of his offseason, via Anthony diComo of MLB.com, "and the Mets were nice enough to say yes."
Eveland was called up on Sunday from Triple-A Las Vegas to inject some life into the bullpen. He did just that, retiring both Chase Utley and Ryan Howard in the eighth inning to back up a strong outing by starter Bartolo Colon.
"I got thrown right into the fire," said Eveland, who entered when the game was still 5-1.
Eveland did very well in "the fire," and may find himself in more situations like that as the season progresses.
