New York Mets manager Terry Collins shifted Daniel Murphy into the third spot in the batting order on Sunday with Michael Cuddyer taking a day off. He was well rewards, as Murphy went 3 for 5 with three solid singles.
According to the New York Post, Collins is now considering keeping Murphy in the third spot.
"If that kick-starts him that is something we've certainly got to have," Collins said. "He's a big piece of our offense and if he starts swinging the bat it's going to give us a different look."
In his career, Murphy is hitting .230 when slotted into the third spot in the lineup. However, he's struggled to the tune of a .217 average when batting fifth this year, so Collins might keeping riding him at #3 until he cools off just a bit.
