Mets News: Kyle Farnsworth is new Mets closer

In Mets news tonight, New York Mets manager Terry Collins has switched courses with the closer's role, replacing the ineffective Jose Valverde with Kyle Farnsworth.

Per Danny Knobler of ESPNNewYork.com, "Terry Collins announced Sunday morning that veteran right-hander Kyle Farnsworth is his new closer, after Valverde allowed four home runs in his last three appearances."

Farnsworth didn't even make the team out of spring training. Yet, after joining the Mets on April 2nd, the new Mets closer has given up just one run in eight appearances.

Despite his 288 career saves, Jose Valverde isn't worrying too much about losing his role as closer with the team: "I'm never disappointed," he says in Knobler's article. "If I'm not doing my job, someone else has to do it. ... [I'm a] happy guy. I stay happy."

In contrast, Kyle Farnsworth was pretty succinct when asked about how he felt about his new role: "You've got to take the opportunities you get and run with them," he stated.

The Mets and manager Terry Collins hope he can run with it for the remainder of the 2014 MLB season.
