Multiple sources are confirming that the San Francisco Giants and the Mets have agreed on a trade that, if finalized, will send the NL doubles leader to the defending World Champion Giants.
The Mets will also send cash, presumably to cover part of the remaining costs for Carlos Beltran's 2011 season. In return the Mets are getting Giants top pitching prospect Zack Wheeler.
Wheeler was drafted 5th overall in the 2009 amateur draft. In Single-A San Jose, the 21-year-old posted a 7-5 record with a 3.99 ERA.
Because of Beltran's no-trade clause this deal is not finalized, but the All-Star center fielder has previously mentioned that he would "love" to go to San Francisco, so it appears as if this won't hold up the deal.
Lucas Duda is going to be starting tonight in right field for Beltran, as the Mets try to move on without their All-Star.
