Jimmer Fredette or not, the Westchester Knicks will open their second D-League season Thursday against the Maine Red Claws at the Westchester County Center.
The Fredette fiasco wasn’t a good look for the D-League. Westchester is the Knicks’ D-League affiliate, but its drafting of Fredette as the No. 2 pick last week only to have him sign with the Pelicans days later exposed how far commissioner Adam Silver has to go to establish a true NBA minor league.
Westchester, with its eye on selling tickets, staged a conference call and Fredette declared he was excited to “be part of the Knicks organization,’’ adding he had eyes on the club’s open 15th roster spot.
