DETROIT — The Knicks’ visions of making a short-term upgrade to their sagging backcourt or to improve their overall shooting prowess at the Feb. 18 trade deadline won’t make sense if their current slide continues.
If the Knicks (23-28) continue fading from the playoff race — they are five games behind the eighth seed in the loss column — Knicks president Phil Jackson could just as easily look to sell off some assets for future gains/cap space.
The candidates would include point guard Jose Calderon and disappointing big man Kyle O’Quinn. Both of their departures would open up much-valued cap space for 2016, when Jackson has visions on making his next big splash by possibly inking Memphis point guard Mike Conley.
