LOS ANGELES -- Defense attorneys in the $21 million rape lawsuit against NBA star Derrick Rose complained about the racial and ethnic makeup of the prospective Los Angeles jury pool, noting only two were African-American like the defendants.
An attorney for Rose's two co-defendants, Randall Hampton and Ryan Allen, noted Tuesday that 15 of the first 27 jurors were Hispanic, the ethnicity of the woman. All three defendants are black.
The jury pool was selected at random from a diverse population, Judge Michael W. Fitzgerald said. He said that was just "tough luck" and he could not rejigger the group.
