Darren Herman grew up in White Plains, NY, during the ‘80s and ‘90s. Like many kids, he played youth sports and naturally gravitated toward his hometown teams. Darren’s father, originally from South Africa, never quite understood American sports, but occasionally, he’d get free tickets from work and take Darren and his family to games. “I remember going to Madison Square Garden with my parents and brother and being wowed by how “big” it all felt.” Darren recalled, “I remember seeing Patrick Ewing, Mark Jackson, Charles Oakley, Rod Strickland, Kiki Vandeweghe, Kenny Walker, and Gerald Wilkins, among others.”
