Phil Jackson special adviser reveals daughter has leukemia

Clarence Gaines Jr., Phil Jackson’s special adviser who was instrumental in the Knicks selecting Kristaps Porzingis, announced on his blog on New Year’s Eve that his daughter, Olivia, has acute myeloid leukemia and likely will need a bone marrow transplant.

Gaines wrote that his daughter, who’s in her early 20’s, had been in the hospital for two months between October and December getting blood transfusions. Gaines asked on his blog that supporters give blood or join the Bone Marrow Registry. He said he wrote the blog because his daughter went public last week on Facebook.

According to Gaines, his daughter is being admitted into the “City of Hope’’ for additional chemotherapy.
