The late, lamented Anthony Mason really came into his own during the Knicks’ successful run under Pat Riley in the early 1990s. The big fella, who would win the NBA’s Sixth Man of the Year award in 1995, became a fan favorite for his intimidating style of play alongside Patrick Ewing.
“Mase” was also beloved for his trendsetting haircuts. Courtesy of barber Freddy Avila at Cutty’s Hair Studio in Jamaica, Queens, at various times Mason had his own name, his team’s name, the phrase “In God’s Hands” and likenesses of the Statue of Liberty and the Manhattan skyline all shaved into his head.
