April 1977 was the start of the “Summer of Sam” in New York City when coaching legend Red Holzman stepped down for the first time as the leader of the New York Knicks, handing the reigns over to captain Willis Reed. The Basketball Hall-of-Famer would come back to the bench two seasons later, and finished his Knicks career with a club-record 613 victories.
