The writer John McPhee is a native of Princeton, New Jersey and a graduate of the university there. He first made his name nationally with a New Yorker profile of a remarkable athlete from his alma mater, a Rhodes Scholar named Bill Bradley. “A Sense of Where You Are,” McPhee’s detailed book about the intellectual student-athlete, came out in 1965, the year the Knicks selected Bradley with their territorial pick in the draft.
