Joe Lapchick, who’d retired from the Knicks’ coaching job at the end of the 1955-’56 season, returned to the Garden during the All-Star festivities of 1957, when the NBA held its first-ever Old-Timers game. Lapchick coached a squad that featured former Knicks Sonny Hertzberg and Connie Simmons. The East team won, 42-38.
