#NYK70 | 1952: Ernie Vandeweghe Marries Colleen Kay Hutchins, 1952 Miss America

One of the key contributors to the Knicks’ run of success in the early 1950s was Ernie Vandeweghe, the former three-sport star who became an All-American at Colgate University. Vandeweghe, who served as a physician for the United States Air Force in Germany after retiring from professional basketball in 1956, would father an impressive brood with his wife, 1952 Miss America Colleen Kay Hutchins. Their son, Kiki, played for the Knicks from 1989 - 1992, and he averaged more than 20 points per game for seven consecutive seasons during his pro career. He is now vice president of the NBA’s basketball operations.
