The McGuire boys, Dick and Al, grew up shooting hoops together on the playgrounds of Queens. They both attended St. John’s University, not far from their neighborhood; Dick was an All-American there. Two years after he was drafted by the Knicks, his younger brother joined him in NYC. Later a coach and scout for the Knicks, Dick McGuire’s elite passing and ball-handling skills earned him a berth in the Hall of Fame, and a memorable nickname: “Tricky Dick.” He was connected to this franchise for over 53 years and the annual Dick McGuire Knickerbocker Legacy Award is given in his honor.
