Via the 2004 Stephon Marbury trade, the New York Knicks did not own their 2010 first-round pick. This eventually became Gordon Hayward, who starred for the Utah Jazz, before moving on to the Boston Celtics in 2017.
The Knicks still had draft capital in 2010, however, with two picks in the second round. They were back-to-back, so the front office was able to select its top two players remaining on the board.
