The New York Knicks last made the postseason in the 2012-13 season, when Carmelo Anthony, Amar’e Stoudemire and Tyson Chandler were around. Five years later, no player from that squad remains with the team, with a rebuild in place that started over the past few years.
For 2018-19, expectations might fall below the playoff line for a sixth consecutive season. With Kristaps Porzingis’ injury and a group of young but developing talent, a spot outside the top eight could be plausible.
Though, in the first season without LeBron James in the Eastern Conference since 2002-03, it potentially opens an avenue for new teams to enter the playoff race and claim a spot in the top eight.
