Before the 2018-19 season started, July’s free agency became a topic of conversation for the New York Knicks. Kyrie Irving and Jimmy Butler were among the names mentioned, but Kevin Durant received the most recognition of the bunch.
If New York stands a legitimate chance at the two-time NBA Finals MVP, it needs to clear more cap space to hand out a maximum contract, unless he chooses to take lesser money. There’s also a 2019-20 player option to remain with the Golden State Warriors.
On Friday, Durant and Golden State will head to Madison Square Garden to face the Knicks for the first of two games in 2018-19.
