The New York Knicks own over $30 million in cap space for the 2019 offseason, pending they don’t re-sign Kristaps Porzingis before the Halloween deadline and retain players like Enes Kanter, Mario Hezonja and Lance Thomas.
With the available money, the Knicks can hand out one max contract, as players like Kawhi Leonard, Klay Thompson, Jimmy Butler and Kemba Walker hit the open market.
Among the available talents, Kyrie Irving likely will opt out of his deal’s final season. He can sign a four-year contract with an outside organization. Speculation arose of the Knicks as a main destination, due to their interest, but the hope for them, and any other team, may have disappeared.
