It’s nothing short of surprising that 7’3″ power forward Kristaps Porzingis has never averaged more than 7.3 rebounds per game. He reached that during his rookie year, and is averaging a career-low 6.7 rebounds per game this season.
For a player who can block shots that sky as high as the top of the backboard, this may be a cause for concern.
Porzingis currently has a rebound percentage of 11.6—good for a ranking of No. 156 in the NBA. Rondae Hollis-Jefferson, a fine player and solid rebounder, averages the same percentage despite being seven inches shorter than Porzingis.
