NBA fines Anthony Davis for publicly forcing trade from Pelicans

The NBA has a trade demand, too: some cash for Anthony Davis’ words.

The Pelicans star center was fined $50,000 Tuesday for violating the league’s rule barring players or their representatives from making a public trade demand. A day prior, agent Rich Paul told ESPN that Davis would not sign a contract extension with New Orleans and that the team should trade him.

The NBA called the statement “an intentional effort to undermine the contractual relationship between Davis and the Pelicans.”

By acting now, Davis is perceived to be trying to swing his way to the Lakers, whose assets should interest the Pelicans while the Celtics, also well-stocked with talent, are not able to trade for him due to an obscure NBA rule.
