WEST POINT – Kristaps Porzingis gave a promising performance at the Las Vegas summer league in July. Training camp will present more challenges, but after Day 1, the 7-foot-3 rookie from Latvia said he already is benefiting from his 11-pound weight gain.
“I was real light during summer league,’’ Porzingis said after the first two-hour practice at West Point’s Christl Arena. “I’m a little heavier. I’m still light for these heavyweights, but I’m getting there. I’m getting stronger, so that’s positive.’’
Porzingis was listed at 233 pounds in Vegas, so he’s now in the 244-pound range. The Knicks didn’t scrimmage Tuesday, but did lots of running and half-court contact drills.
