Lance Thomas is expected to sign a one-year, $1.63 million contract Friday as the Knicks agreed to reach above a minimum deal to bring back the Brooklyn-born forward.
The Knicks still had a little bit of cap space left over with the league’s salary cap rising to $70 million, nearly $3 million over what had been projected.
According to a source, Thomas had a few teams interested willing to go a little above the minimum — which would have been $1.05 million given his service time and cap space would not have been needed. The Nets also made initial inquiries on the Jersey-raised defensive forward.
