February 28, 2015 was one of the most tragic days in New York Knicks history. On that fateful date, Anthony Mason, the 1995 Sixth Man of the Year and eternal New York fan favorite, passed away after suffering a massive heart attack.
After a fight for his life that began on February 11 and spanned more than two weeks, news broke that the Knicks legend had died at just 48 years of age.
The basketball community still mourns Mason’s death, and Knicks fans still reminisce. He was instrumental in the development of Pat Riley’s storied teams, embodying the raw tenacity and unbridled physicality that made the 1990s so prosperous for New York basketball.
