Knicks say they weren’t on star search during offseason

LAS VEGAS — Phil Jackson ambled into a ballroom in the Encore Hotel in the middle of Derrick Williams’ sit-down with the media on Friday.

The Knicks president didn’t personally address his work in free agency that netted four solid if unspectacular players in Robin Lopez, Arron Afflalo, Kyle O’Quinn and Williams. Instead, Jackson left it to general manager Steve Mills to explain what is readily apparent.

The team failed to attract a superstar to pair with Carmelo Anthony following meetings in free agency with Greg Monroe and DeAndre Jordan and a non-meeting with LaMarcus Aldridge after it was clear he was going elsewhere.
