The New York Knicks have addressed the void at point guard with a low-risk, high-reward investment in Derrick Rose. The 2011 NBA MVP has one year remaining on his lucrative contract, which means he’s slated to come off the books in 2017.
No matter what happens a year from now, the Knicks need to find a quality backup point guard for the 2016-17 season.
Rose has come a long way on his road to recovery from recurring knee injuries, playing 51 games in 2014-15 and 66 in 2015-16. Even if Rose manages to remain healthy in 2016-17, the injury concerns and minute-managing would require a highly competent backup.
