Knicks president Steve Mills said he has no evidence of Kristaps Porzingis being unhappy that he didn’t get his rookie $158 million contract extension at Monday’s deadline.
It was a foregone conclusion for months the Knicks would wait until he became a restricted free agent. Had they extended Porzingis, the club would have had little or no chance to open up maximum cap room in the summer of 2019. Their only chance was trading Courtney Lee and not taking back anything in return, but that didn’t come close to happening.
