Knicks assistant Johnnie Bryant interviewing for Cavs head coach job

The Cleveland Cavaliers have been granted permission to interview Johnnie Bryant, the associate head coach of the New York Knicks, for their vacant head-coaching position, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported on Friday, May 31.

Before joining the Knicks, Bryant worked with the Utah Jazz, first in player development and later as an assistant coach. The relationship he built with current Cavs franchise cornerstone Donovan Mitchell is believed to be one of the main reasons Cleveland is seriously thinking about hiring him as the new head coach of the team.

For context, Mitchell is under contract through next season but he is eligible to sign a humongous 4-year extension worth up to $208 million this summer.
