If life is all journey, with no ultimate or achievable point, one may respond in different ways. The passive nihilist, observing the limits of their existence and awareness, succumbs to fatalistic surrender — “If nothing matters, why bother?” The active nihilist rejects that; if nothing matters, that’s even more reason than any to push oneself to action — the only thing we control is our response to a universe beyond our control. We can choose to succumb. Or we can choose to push beyond the known limits, if only in the pursuit of our truest selves.
There is an active nihilist streak in Jamahl Mosley’s Magic I find irresistibly alluring.
