Karl-Anthony Towns stepped up on the side of the ball you wouldn’t expect

Winning ugly is always better than losing pretty.

Yesterday’s frustrating victory in Charlotte was definitely the former. A mostly healthy—Precious Achiuwa and Mitchell Robinson are still out—Knicks team faced a despondent and depleted Hornets team that was not only starting Vasilije Micic and Tidjane Salaun but gave 10 minutes to 39-year-old Taj Gibson off the bench.

Despite facing an offense headlined by Brandon Miller and Josh Green, the Knicks fell behind early, stayed behind on maddening offense, and barely pulled out in front late, thanks to Jalen Brunson realizing he’s the best player on the court by a country mile.
