A term that gets thrown around the NBA world a bunch these days is ‘positionless basketball’. And it’s certainly the direction that the league is headed in.
Not too long ago, certain skills were associated with certain positions. Point guards would initiate the offense. Shooting guards would score. Forwards would focus on defense and post work. And big men would crash the glass.
These days, things look a bit different.
Now, all five guys on the floor are expected to contribute in every department. Point guards are taller than they’ve ever been. Teams will routinely run lineups of four wings (if not five).
