CHICAGO — Oklahoma point guard Trae Young, who claimed himself the best player in the NBA draft, isn’t sure yet if he will grant a private workout to the Knicks, who have the ninth pick.
Under the draft combine rules, the Knicks requested Young, who became one of their 20 interviewees Friday. It’s hard to imagine Young, once pegged as the top pick before a late-season swoon, falling past the Magic at No. 6.
The Knicks are eager to work out the 6-foot-2 Young. He’s one player for whom they likely would eschew their need at small forward and would add to their glut of young point guards in the unlikely event he should fall all the way to 9.
