The three new Dallas pickups will thrown right into the fire on Super Bowl Sunday – with Dennis Smith Jr. starting at point guard and DeAndre Jordan at center when the Knicks face Memphis in a 1 p.m. Super Bowl Sunday matinee.
With physicals all completed by Sunday morning, Knicks coach David Fizdale had no hesitancy to let them roll without even practicing with the team.
Smith is considered a future piece, but Jordan and Wes Matthews are expiring contracts.
Matthews is likelier to be traded at Thursday’s deadline as the Knicks are hopeful Jordan is a big influence on rookie Mitchell Robinson, out on Sunday due to illness.
