Enes Kanter’s assassination fears are Turkey ‘smear campaign’: Turkoglu

PORTLAND, Ore. — Turkish center Enes Kanter is back on the defensive after fellow countryman and former NBA forward Hedo Turkoglu ripped him on Twitter for Kanter’s recent comments about the Turkish dictator regarding his canceled trip to London.

Turkoglu said Kanter’s comments are “irrational,” and he’s on a “political smear campaign.”

Kanter said late Friday in Los Angeles he would fear for his life in London because of spies if he made the trip with the Knicks for their Jan. 17 game against the Wizards. He also called Turkey’s leader “a lunatic.”

“I can get killed very easy,” Kanter said.
