David Fizdale was laughing and shaking hands with several members of Knicks brass just hours before news leaked of his curiously timed firing.
Video from SNY shows a smiling Fizdale greeting team president Steve Mills and general manager Scott Perry, among others, Friday at the team’s practice facility in Westchester.
It is not unusual for the Knicks higher-ups to attend practice, but it was unclear why Fizdale was permitted to hold practice and speak with reporters in the first place, hours before being canned.
Fizdale, who was 4-18 so far in his second season and 21-83 overall with the Knicks, was replaced by assistant Mike Miller, the franchise’s former G-League coach who won coach of the year there in 2018.
