Carmelo Anthony Compares Brazilian Favelas To City of God

As has been established many times before, New York Knicks star Carmelo Anthony is a man of the people. He’s a social activist and philanthropist as much as he is an NBA and Olympic athlete.

Well-documented as that may be, on Tuesday, August 16, Anthony turned even the most jaded of heads.

Yes, that is Anthony in a Brazilian favela.

In the midst of an Olympic experience that’s included the robbery of both athletes and tourists, Anthony showed no fear. He immersed himself in the culture and traveled to where he was advised to avoid.

According to Sam Amick of USA TODAY Sports, Anthony compared the favelas of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil to the iconic film City of God.
