The New York Knicks are strongly pursuing several point guards leading up to the NBA trade deadline on Thursday, and their top target continues to be Atlanta Hawks point guard Jeff Teague.
Talks between the two sides hit a snag when the Knicks didn't have the assets to match Atlanta's asking price. The Vertical's Chris Mannix reports that they're looking for a "Godfather-type" deal in return for Teague, and New York has very few assets in general, let along ones they would be willing to part with.
However, that doesn't mean the Knicks are turning their attention elsewhere. ESPN's Ian Begley reports that New York is trying to get a third team to enter trade talks, offering Jose Calderon and Kyle O'Quinn in some packages.
If the Knicks aren't able to secure a trade for Teague, they'll turn their attention to Minnesota's Ricky Rubio and Detroit's Brandon Jennings, both of whom have been made available by their respective teams.
The Hawks have put Teague on the trade block in an attempt for them to keep backup PG Dennis Schroder long-term. The 22-year-old German told Atlanta in the preseason that he wanted to be the starter or would sign elsewhere in free agency this offseason. Still, Atlanta isn't is a rush to part ways with Teague if someone doesn't meet their asking price.
