The New York Knicks finished the season with the second-worst record in NBA, and both fans and the front office are hoping to turn the franchise around as quickly as possible. Here's the latest on their free agency plans:
Knicks are frontrunners to sign Greg Monroe, Arron Afflalo
New York still has some work to do with some big name free agent targets, but the Knicks are set to sign both Greg Monroe and Arron Afflalo, according to the New York Daily News. Monroe has been linked to the Knicks since April, and while he's meeting with a few other teams, it'll be shocking if he isn't playing in the Big Apple next season. Monroe is looking for a deal that will pay him $15 million a year, and Afflalo is expected to sign for a deal approaching $38 million over three years.
New York to meet with LaMarcus Aldridge, DeAndre Jordan today
Monroe and Afflalo may already be in the bag, but the Knicks are still set on landing one of the top prizes in free agency. Aldridge is meeting with the Knicks as one of the seven teams he's meeting with, though many believe New York is still trailing the Lakers and Spurs for him.
Jordan would give the Knicks a premier interior defender they've been lacking, and he is strongly considering the Knicks. He wants to have a bigger offensive role than he had with the Clippers last year, and if New York can promise that to him, they'll become the favorites to land him.
Knicks reach out to Patrick Beverley
Beverley is the best defensive point guard on the market, and with a desperate need for someone at the position, the Knicks reached out to him shortly after the free agent period started. Cleveland, Dallas, and Houston are also pursuing him, but New York is said to be the most interested in him.
