The New York Knicks signed guard Jimmer Fredette to a 10-day contract on February 22nd, but that contract will soon be up. The team might not bring back Fredette, according to the New York Post.
The Post reports the Knicks could give Fredette another 10-day contract, but the team is also looking at other guards. Fredette also played just once since joining the team, in a garbage-time appearance. Knicks head coach Kurt Rambis said Fredette has been "pushed around a little" on defense during practice and that the team is looking at other guards.
"Yes, yes, yes,’" Rambis said. "Management is collecting [names], that’s what they’re doing. [They’re] talking about guys, thinking about guys, not only for this season [but] bringing guys in they might want to hold onto and bring them to summer league next year and work out during the summer. There are a lot of names floating around out there."
One of those names is Ray McCallum, who was recently cut by the San Antonio Spurs. He would fill a need as the team badly needs point guard help. McCallum played in 31 games this year and does have potential. He might not be the shooter that Fredette is, but McCallum is closer to a true point guard and better on defense.
