The New York Knicks aren't just looking to acquire a first round pick from the Portland Trail Blazers before the NBA Draft. The latest rumor is that the Knicks are open to adding Moe Harkless in a trade, per an ESPN report.
"Talks between New York and Portland are believed to be in the early stages, but at least one scenario discussed involved an additional player from Portland being sent in a trade, according to sources," ESPN's Ian Begley writes. "Portland's Moe Harkless is one player who was discussed in a possible trade scenario, sources told ESPN."
The Trail Blazers have three first round picks and could package one of them with a player in an attempt to reduce some of the monetary burden the team currently faces. The Blazers are already over the salary cap and they regressed this year. Harkless is one of the players with a hefty contract Portland try to deal.
Harkless is due to make roughly $30 million over the next three years, making him perhaps the most attractive of the Blazers' players with big contracts. He put up 10.0 points and 4.4 rebounds per game this year, a jump from the 6.4 points and 3.6 rebounds per game he had last year.
A small forward, Harkless could see starting time if the Knicks do end up moving Carmelo Anthony. If not, he could be the first forward off the bench at either the three or maybe as a small-ball four.
