Knicks Rumors: Heat Will Not Pursue Trade For Carmelo Anthony

The New York Knicks haven't been shy about their desire to trade Carmelo Anthony this offseason, and the Los Angeles Clippers have been the strongest suitor for his services.

The Cleveland Cavaliers and Miami Heat were thought to be LA's biggest threats for Anthony, but the Heat are not interested in a potential deal, according to Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald:

One person in touch with the Heat said he does not expect a Heat pursuit of Knicks forward Carmelo Anthony, who’s available via trade.

One reason is the onerous cap hits. According to cap expert/heathoops.com writer Albert Nahmad, because of an $8.1 million trade kicker, Anthony’s cap hits would be $30.3 million next season and $27.9 million the following if he’s traded before July 1.

If he’s traded after July 1, the cap hits would be $34.4 million next season and $27.9 million in 2018-19, according to Nahmad.

Anthony has a no-trade clause, but has expressed interest in waiving it if he was traded to a contender in a major market. He has been linked to Miami since the "Big 3" era (he was supposed to join Dwyane Wade and LeBron James on the Heat, not Chris Bosh), but opted to stay in New York at the time.

Carmelo averaged 22.4 points and 5.9 rebounds per game this past season.
